Early California settler. He lived about 40 miles east of San Diego at a Place they call Buckman Springs. He and his family were some of the first folks in the San Diego County to 'can water' as the called it in those days. Anyway, they 'found' his grave when they built Interstate 8. The State of California felt so badly about the situation of bringing old Amos back to this world, that they re-buried him where he lay, re-routed the right-of-way fence around him (a major concession for the State at that time), and bought Mr.Buckman a nice shinny white oblisk-like headstone, which stands today along Interstate 8, adjacent to the dog-legged fence-line, but where nobody could see it, unless they knew where to look. A black, orange, black horizontally striped flag is now erected in its place.
