Maria E. Bagwell, a native of La Cueva, N.M., located in Mora County passed away on Friday Aug. 21, 2009, at 88.
She was born on April 9, 1921, to the late David Sanchez and Nicanora Martinez. Also preceding her in death is her husband, Bedford Bagwell and their son, Anthony Bagwell; brothers, Fidel Gurule and Amadeo Sanchez and niece, Patricia Gurule.
Surviving Maria are two sisters-in-law, Florence Gurule of La Cueva, N.M., and Amanda Sanchez of Los Alamos, N,M. Her nephews and nieces are Joseph Gurulé of California, Michael Gurulé and wife Erin of Crest Hill, Ill., Ronnie Gurule and wife Pearl of Springer, N.M., Amadeo Sanchez Jr. of Los Alamos, N.M., Eddie Sanchez of Los Alamos, N.M., Gina Pacheco and husband Raymond of Mora, N.M, Gwen Moore of Buena Vista, N.M., Cathy Duran and husband Margarito of Milan, N.M., Annette Martinez and husband Richard of Espanola, N.M., and Evelyn Voos and husband Ray of Rutheron, N.M. Also surviving Maria is her special God-daughter whom she loved as her own daughter, Rose Estrada and husband Don of Las Vegas and their children, Marvin Estrada and family of Bernalillo, N.M., Jeanette Gutierrez and husband Ernest and family of Wagon Mound, N.M., Theresa Estrada and Richard Garcia and family of La Cueva, N.M., and Don Estrada and wife Angel and family of Albuquerque. She is also survived her close friend, Gita Telles of Las Vegas and also numerous cousins of Buena Vista, N.M., and many loving friends.
A rosary was recited Sunday Aug. 23, at the chapel at Nelson Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated by the Rev. John McHugh at 10 a.m. Monday Aug. 24 , at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora. Interment will follow the mass at La Cueva Cemetery in La Cueva, N.M. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Gurule, Dominic Pacheco, Richard Garcia, Ernest Gutierrez, Roy Mares and Raymond Pacheco.
