Swain, NY, ---This community was saddened to learn that Mrs. Erma Babcock, a long time resident, had died at her trailer home in Mango, Florida, Saturday, March 31.
Mrs. Babcock was born in Cadillac, Michigan, but was brought to Swain by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Heath, when she was just two months old. She married Dwight Gleason, who had also lived in Swain from an early age, and they had two children -- Bessie, she married Charles McTarnaghan, and lived in Nunda until last August when she and her husband had moved to Florida; and son Thurlow Gleason of Tarpon Springs, Florida.
Mrs. Babcock continued to live in Swain after her husband's death until she married Elzer Babcock, a widower, and lived with him in Wiscoy until his death four or five years later. She then returned to Swain to live in the home her father had owned. Several years ago she sold the house and went to live with the McTarnaghan's in Nunda. The move to Florida had been planned several years ahead.
