Clayton Reid, 84, Dwight, a native of Morris County, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born Aug 25, 1913, in this county,
son of John and Estella Goss Reid. He was graduated from Alta Vista High School.
Mr. Reid worked at the Alta Vista Coop and the Dwight Hardware Store, and he had sold home insulation two or three years. He began work as a technician in the boiler room at The Irwin Army Hospital, Fort Riley, retiring in 1978 after 20 years of civil service.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post, both of Dwight. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II.
His marriage to Ruth Emily Aspelin was Oct, 21, 1956, at the Dwight United Methodist Church. She survives.
Other survivors include a sister-in-law,
Lavona Reid, Rockport, Mo.; a niece, Jacque Gayle Gebhards, Rockport; and a nephew, Randall Reid, St Louis, Mo. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Milton Reid, the latter in 1985.
Services will be Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock at the Dwight Presbyterian Church, with military graveside services, conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard, following in Dwight Cemetery. Mr. Reid will lie in state from noon until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Kendall Funeral Chapel, Council Grove.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dwight Presbyterian Church and left in care
of the Kendall Chapel.

On October 21, 1956, Ruth Aspelin married Clayton "Jerry" Reid, who was the son of John and Stella Goss Reid, at the Dwight Methodist Church. Clayton was employed as a boiler technician at Fort Riley's Irwin Army Hospital until his retirement in the late 1970s. He died on August 4, 1998. The couple had no children.
