TULARE DAILY EVENING REGISTER 18 December 1888
SAD ACCIDENT
The following is a dispatch from Hanford in last night's Bulletin: The 9 year old son of Ed Benedict's of this town (Hanford) was kicked by a horse in the back of the head last evening, from which injury he is still unconscious, and will probably die. Mrs. Rufus Abbott, a lady sixty years of age, who lived next door, and heard the outcry and saw the boy carried into the house, was so overcome that she fell in a faint and remained unconscious until about midnight, when she died. She was a highly esteemed lady, and the whole accident causes heartfelt sorrow in our community.
