A U. S. Army veteran of the Second World War, he was a graduate of Ohio University. He was survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, two stepsons, and nine grandchildren.
He was also survived by three sisters, Mary Kershaw of Knoxville, Tenn., Jean Wheeler of Marietta and Glorianna Dougherty of Carbondale, Ill., and two brothers, Dan of Swansboro, N. C., and John of Gallipolis. He was preceded in death by two infant sisters and a brother William.
