Madelyn "Grandma Lyd" was the oldest girl of ten children.
Most of her life she lived in Los Angeles, California (Sun Valley). After the accidental death of her husband, Ostes Thomas Largent, in 1922, she married Ernest Didier in 1936. Ernie, our "step-grandfather" was loved by all of us.

She and Ostes had four children in the following order: Juanita, Orval "Jack", Edith and Ostes Jr. "Tom." All have passed away. My mother, Edith, in 1992 and Juanita in 1988. Tom and Jack died of heart attacks -- Tom at age 36 in 1956 and Jack at age 49 in 1964. As children they went through some hard times together and remained a close family. After their mother was widowed, the Briggs grandparents helped to raise them.

Madelyn's mother was born Emily Mollie Morrow (1864-1948) and her father James Polk Briggs (1858-1938). They were married in 1881.

Edith, Jack (her husband), and I had a lot of fun playing partners with Madelyn in games of single and double-deck pinochle. We had many good times together when we visited her at her home in Palermo, California. She had moved there a few years after her husband, Ernie, passed away in Sun Valley, California. Several of her siblings also lived in Palermo so that we had a good time visiting with maniy members of the Briggs family in the 1970s .

Madelyn's siblings from oldest to youngest with birth dates are the following:

Alexander 1881
Grover Longo 1885
Roy Winfrey 1889
Steve Richard 1890
Mary Etta 1895 (Harper)
Minnie Elizabeth 1897 (Grider)
Margaret Climentine 1899. (Hill)
Della Katherine 1902 (Portious)
Fannie Hilda 1906 (Hibler)
