Norman Leo Avis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Avis of the Chute Sixteen neighborhood, was born February 16, 1909, and died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Memphis, of uremic poisoning on September 4, 1937, at the age of 28 years, 6 months and 18 days.
Deceased was unmarried and was a member of the Catholic church of this city. He was a young man of commendable morals and was an energetic young farmer, residing on a farm with his brother near Steele.
For the past year he had been in very poor health. About a year ago he went to Memphis for a kidney operation, since which time he had recuperated sufficiently to resume his farming activities. Early in August he returned to the hospital for treatment and having shown satisfactory improvement was dismissed and seemed to be doing fairly well. However, he became ill again about a week ago and entered St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died on the above date.
Deceased is a member of a prominent family of Chute Sixteen as was attested by the large crowd attending and the many floral offerings from friends at his funeral, which was held at the Catholic church in this city Monday morning at 9 o'clock, conducted by Rev. P.J. Doyle, pastor.
He is survived by his parents and a number of other relatives.
