Former Norway Man, 92, Dies

Al Vanderheyden, 92, of West Bend, Wis., formerly of Norway, died Tuesday at a West Bend Hospital, following a brief illness.

Mr. Vanderheyden was born Feb. 20, 1880 in Holland, and came to the United States with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Vanderheyden, when he was two years old.

He came to Norway in 1900 and had lived here until five years ago when he moved to West Bend.

Mr. Vanderheyden operated a tailor shop and men's clothing store for over 60 years. At one time he served as justice of the peace and was active in civic and church organizations.


He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. James (Bernice) Felber, of Germantown, Wis., Mrs. Durgan (Marion) Beemer, of Clearwater, Fla.; Mrs. James (Esther) Cordry of Norway; Mrs. Walter (Joan) Springman of Big Cedar Lake, West Bend; Mrs. Kenneth (Charlotte) Stitzer of Brownsville, Texas, and Mrs. John (Janice) Cercera of Milwaukee; two sons, Don and Jerry of West Bend; one sister, Mrs. Charles Kuehl Green Bay; one brother, Martin Vanderheyden Belleville, Ill., and 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Asp Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 0 on Friday. Liturgical services will be at 8 p.m. on Friday.

Services will be at 10:45 Saturday morning at the funeral home and at 11 at St. Mary Church. The Rev. Fr. Elmer Bares will officiate.

Burial will be in the Norway Township Cemetery.

Mr Vanderheyden was preceded in death by his wife and two daughters.

Services for Al Vanderheyden, who died on Tuesday, March 7, were held Saturday morning at the Asp Memorial Funeral Home and at St. Mary Church. The Rev. Fr. Elmer Bares officiated.

Pallbearers were Dan Stanchina, Joseph Nora, Alfio and Howard Vielmetti, Anthony Schafer and Jim Cordry.

Burial was in the Norway Township Cemetery.
