John Michael Strother; Veteran, Police Officer, Husband, Father and so much more, completed a fulfilled life on August 27th 2009. He was born September 5, 1944 to Earnest and Hazel Strother in Oakdale, Louisiana.
After his rambunctious childhood and attendance at Louisiana State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree, John Michael joined the United States Navy and proudly served his beloved country through various duties, tours in Vietnam and assignments throughout the United States. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, he became a Police Officer with the Lake Charles, LA Police Department. In 1968 returned to Jacksonville, FL, where he was previously stationed, and served as a Police Officer & Detective with the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office for over 40 years.
Throughout his adult life, John Michael was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. Although a man of few and often biting words, John Michael will be remembered for his charm, sense of humor and infectious smile. Yet, it is truly John Michael's undying love and devotion to his family that defines the man, we have known, respected and loved. Even though there are no profound or clever words that can accurately depict what an immense; Patriot, Husband, Dad and Friend John Michael truly was, all that knew him will always love and miss him.
He is survived by loyal friends and his family: Wife; Sharon "Squirt", Son; Tim "Bo", and Daughter-In-Law, his "Baby Girl"; Alison.
Family will be receiving visitors Tuesday, September 1st, from 6 to 8pm George H. Hewell & Son Funeral Home. 4140 University Blvd S., Jacksonville, FL 32216 A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd, at 10:30am at Harvest Time Church of God, 4502 Old Middleburg Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32210 Followed by an interment service at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
