Travis E. Nelson, 87, of Bryan, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2009, surrounded by his family who he loved so much. Visitors will be received by the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. on Monday, August 31,2009, at Central Baptist Church. Internment will be in Bryan at the Bryan Cemetery after the service.

Travis was born to Thomas and Clifford Cole Nelson in Austin. He met Dorothy Lynn Krenek at the First National Bank of Bryan and two weeks later he married her. Their marriage was strong and enduring until her death in 1976. Travis worked as a business manager for Kazmeier Hatcheries then assumed the role of Director of Business Services for the Bryan Independent School District, a role in which he served for 20 years. Upon retirement from BISD, he was elected and served two terms in the position of District Clerk for Brazos County. He also served as a member of the Bryan City Council and the Bryan School Board for many years.

Travis Nelson was beloved by his family and many in the community. His greatest love was for his Lord Jesus Christ, his family and the church. He sang in the choir with a beautiful bass voice and served as an active church member and deacon for most of his life. He was a gentle man with a servant's heart who loved to laugh, dance and enjoy life. Truly a Godly and Blessed man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy Lynn Krenek Nelson, daughter, Nancy Kay Nelson Douglass, brother, Robert Cole Nelson, and two sisters, Marjorie Nelson Williams and Bobbi Jean Nelson Butler.

Survivors include one son, Barry C. Nelson, daughter in law, Teri Reed Nelson of Bryan, a son in law, Samuel Karl Douglass of Rockwall, Texas. Grandchildren include Lindsey Ann Nelson Payne and her husband Bryan Nelson Payne; Dorothy Layne Nelson Murr and her husband James Murr; Mark Douglass and his wife Bethany; Scott Douglass and his wife Diana; Tim Douglass and his wife Kristin and Elizabeth Furaha Douglass. Great grandchildren include Nathanael Payne, Chloe and Cooper Murr, Liam, Burke, Blythe, and Olive Douglass, Ella, Beckett, Iris Douglass and expecting two more very soon
