DEER CREEK - Loran N. Cornwell, 90, a rural Deer Creek retired farmer, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 25, 1995) at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.

His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Deer Creek Baptist Church, the Rev. Robert Sherbondy officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Deer Creek.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Otto-Argo Funeral Home, Eureka.

He was born Sept. 18, 1904, in Deer Creek, a son of James and Addie Nixon Cornwell. He married Frances Denman June 18, 1930, in Phillipi, W.Va. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, James, Mackinaw; and Rodney and Bruce, both of Deer Creek; two daughters, Carole Lieving, Clarsburg, W.Va.; and Susan Langwith, Des Moines, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Cornwell was a retired farmer and member of Deer Creek Baptist Church for 80 years, serving as moderator, deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a president and board member of Mount Zion Cemetery, Deer Creek.

He was also a member of Pioneer FBF of Woodford County; a board member of Woodford County Seed Co.; and a school board member of District 701 when Deer Creek and Mackinaw school districts consolidated.
He attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

Memorials may be made to Deer Creek Baptist Church or the Frances Denman Cornwell Music Scholarship.
