On June 17, 1939, in Caruthersville, he was married to Miss Lee Etta Tackett and they moved to St. Louis in 1941, where they had lived since except for the time he spent in the service during World War II.
He is survived by his wife and two children, Herbert Jr. and Doris Ann, of St. Louis; his mother, Mrs. Nell Ransburg of Hayti; a brother, Cleford Smith of St. Louis; a half-brother, Clement Ransburg, Phoenix, Ariz. and five half-sisters, Mrs. Clara Bell Dobbins, Hayti, Mrs. Claire Johnson, West Helena, Ark., Mrs. Alberta Pike, Dewey, Okla., Mrs. Francis H. Fontenot, Maryville, Tenn. and Mrs. Neva Craig, Orlando, Fla.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the LaForge Undertaking Company chapel with the Rev. Floyd V. Brower officiating. Burial was in Little Prairie cemetery.
