Peter S. RITTENHOUSE AKA RITTENHOUSEN
Birth: 29 Sep 1787 or 1786 (?)
Death: 26 Nov 1854 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Died at age 68 years.

Message rec'd: "Sec A-7 Lots 7-9 Headstone read: Scared to the memory of/our parents/Peter S. Rittenhouse/who departed this life/November 26, 1854/ in the 68th year of his
age/Mary M. Rittenhouse/who departed this life/march 23, 1863/in the 72d year of her age. This is from GSP and American Mechanics' records. "

There seems to be quite a lot of confusion between Peter S. Rittenhouse and Peter Rittenhouse, who died 17 Dec 1855.

They both are reported to have married Mary Paul.

"Note:
Peter carried on Calf butchering quite extensively on North Seventh Street below Diamond where he resided for many years. He was extensively known as an honest and fair dealing man . Many of the farmers would deal only with Peter Rittenhouse. He was a very charitable man and his wife
was extremely good natured and kind to the poor. Many of the farmers would sell their calves to no one else but Rittenhouse. So well were they satisfied that in many cases, when they came to town with five of six calves on their wagons, as was custom at that time, and Peter happened to be absent from the home, they would unload their calves and put them in the stable and drive on down to the market and sell their produce and stop back for their money, which was always ready and the price he allowed was generally satisfactory to the parties without any trouble or dispute.
Mr. Peter Rittenhouse and wife Mary left the Kensington area and connected themselves with the Cohocksink Presbyterian Church in March of 1840. This church was organized in March of 1840, so they were among the
first members of the church. Peter Rittenhouse was elected a trustee March 2, 1840 and served in that capacity until March 26, 1 848. Those who knew him remembered him as a man with a very handsome or pretty face, but he was extremely fat."
