Son of Nancy Morton and Charles Prather McCoy. The 1910 and 1920 censuses list his occupation as Lumber Dealer-Saw Mill, and his residence as 716 Main St., Sistersville, WV. He was the builder of the "Big Moses" gas well, a major investor in The First Tyler Bank and Trust, Paden City Glass Manufacturing Company, Reno Oil Company, and Sistersville Tank and Boiler Works. He was the owner of Virginia Terrace and developer of Hanford City as well as the largest landowner in Tyler County upon his death. Married to Margaret Elizabeth Wiley on 21 May 1891 in Wayne, WV. Married to Margaret Virginia Wells on 04 Oct 1899 in Beech Bottom, Brooke Co, WV. Children: Virginia, Charles W., Walter W., and Paul McCoy. Married to Flora B. Gribble on 26 Oct 1916 in Tyler Co, WV. Son: Henry E. McCoy. Died at 87y 9m 16d at Sistersville General Hospital from lobar pneumonia due to pleural effusion, lower lobe, right lung (5 weeks).
