Lela was the wife of J.T. Closs and they had twelve children. They owned about 5,000 acres of land that they farmed and raised cattle on. They also leased some of their land to share croppers and owned a country store.
Mrs. J.T. Closs, 91, of Edge, died Friday at 8:40 PM in a local Rest Home.
The body will repose in the family home until thirty minutes before the funeral service which will be held this afternoon at 3 PM in the Edge Church of Christ with Minister Kenneth Hoyle of Waco officiating. He will be assisted by Minister Thomas D. Compton, of the Church of Christ of Bryan.
Interment will be in the New Church Cemetery at Edge with these friends serving as active pall bearers: George Dunn, Vaughn Wilson, Milton Franklin, J.W. Hamilton, Charlier Altimore, and Robert Armstrong.
Names as honorary pallbearers were Dr. L.O. Wilkerson, Dr. Charles M. Cole, W.S. Higgs, W.S. Barron, Mit Dansby, S.P. Moore, Fort Martin, Frank Vymola, Arthur Corgey, and Columbus Seale.
Mrs. Closs was born in the Prospect community in Brazos County, January 6, 1868. She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Donald Leighman and Mrs. E.B. Moore of Bryan, Mrs. C.B. Moore and Mrs. Roy Elliott of Edge, Mrs. Monroe Gandy of HEarne, and Mrs. R.H. Pack of Franklin; five sons, A.M. and W.R. Closs of Edge, E.T. Closs of Calvert, M.G. Closs of Port Neches, and A.W. Closs of Waco; 47 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.
