Daughter of David H and Nancy (Watson)Austin of New York. After her mothers death, in 1831, David brought the family to Michigan, settling in the Village of Howell, Livingston County, Michigan. Nancy M Austin married Sidney Hudson on March 12, 1848, in Oakland County, Michigan. Sometime after 1869, her husband, following his strong religious convictions decided to move to Salt Lake City, Utah, leaving Maria to raise the children on her own.
