Clyde Leonard "Drydock" Barnes, 73, of Henry, Illinois died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, in the emergency room of St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley, Ill.

Leonard was born June 30, 1936, in Putnam, Ill., to Clarence and Genevieve (Prather) Barnes. He married Judy Cook. They were later divorced. He had made his home with Betty Holocker.

Surviving are one daughter, Robbi L. Barnes of Henry; one son, Kerry (Joanie) Barnes of Henry; two brothers, Keith (JoAnn) Barnes of Henry and Terry (Barb Steinseifer) Barnes of Lacon; three grandchildren, Kelsie, Levi and Ryan; a great-grandchild to be born in December; seven nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and -nephews.

His parents; one brother, Harold; and one sister, Genevieve, preceded him in death.

Leonard was a career Navy officer for 22 years.

He was a past commander of the Henry VFW and a member of Henry American Legion Post 323.

He was an animal lover and enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and collecting ginseng, and was a great storyteller.

Burial will follow in Henry Cemetery in Henry. The Henry American Legion Post 323 will accord military rites at the cemetery.
