MAX MEADOWS - James Payton "Jim" Gravley, 85, of Max Meadows, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2004, in Pulaski Community Hospital. He was born Sept. 13, 1918 in Wythe County, son of the late Thomas and Laura Dalton Gravley. He was a member of Pickett's Chapel Church of God and was retired from the New Jersey Zinc Company. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucile Quesenberry Gravley, two sisters and six brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Tate Gravley; three daughters, Mae Koger of Max Meadows, Liz Payne of Galax, and Pat Stone of Austinville; four sons, Richard Gravley of Rural Retreat, Roby Gravley of Enace, N.C., Billy Gravley of Woodlawn, and David Gravley of Woodlawn; 21 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 24, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Flatwood Church of God with Rev. Bobby Alley, Rev. Ronnie Stuart and Rev. Billy Dean officiating.
Interment will follow in the Foster Falls Cemetery.
Mr. Gravley will be taken to the Flatwood Church of God, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday or at the residence at any time.
Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, is in charge of the arrangements.
