Esther Louise Bergmann, 88, of Tripoli, died Tuesday, October 06, 2009, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Esther was born August 3, 1921, on the family farm southeast of Readlyn, Iowa, the daughter of John and Emilie (Foelske) Ruehs. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran-Klinger on August 21, 1921. Esther would later complete her parochial school at Immanuel Lutheran-Klinger and was confirmed on April 14, 1935, at the same church.
On July 25, 1943, she was united in marriage to LeLand "Lee" Bergmann at St. John's Lutheran, Western Douglas by the Rev. R.H. Steege. The couple lived in rural Douglas Township for one year then moved to Tripoli, Iowa. Esther and LeLand started the Hatchery Feed and Seed; together they operated the business for 30 years. They sold the business in 1977. Esther very much enjoyed decorating the inside of her home, she changed the décor to match each changing of the season. She also liked flowers and any of the produce that Lee worked hard to grow and harvest from the garden.
Esther is survived by one son Dennis Bergmann and his wife, Sheila of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two grand children, Jason Bergmann and his wife, Tonya of Des Moines, Iowa and Megan Bergmann of Atlanta, Georgia; two great grandchildren, Deana and Emily Bergmann; one brother Waldo Ruehs of Plainfield; one sister Ruth Schwemm of Tripoli. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, one son Lionel Bergmann, one grandson, Darren Bergmann, sister Darlene Niedert.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli with Rev. Miles Renaas officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Tripoli, at a later date.
