"George Sammons Osborn's War Record: He was born in North Carolina on January 4, 1848 (3-January-1847 in GA according to his Death Certificate). He left school and enlisted in the Confederate Army at the age of 15 years. He was mustered into service at Savannah, Georgia. Was in all the battles up until July 1864, and on the day of the battle of Atlanta was wounded. While ill with the wound, took typhoid fever and during that time Hood took the army and went on to Nashville, Tennessee. He was unable to get to his command so reported for duty at a cavalry that was picketing around Atlanta. He was detailed as dispatch carrier for General Hannon and served in that capacity until the Battle of Waynesborough.Was captured there and remained in prison until the surrender of the Southern Army. Was paroled in June 1865. Belonged to Company H., Regular First State Georgia Infantry."
