Edmund J. Scherer, 85, passed away on July 21, 2009. Edmund was born in Defiance, OH on March 28, 1924 to the late Joseph and Amelia Scherer. He was a veteran of WWII, having proudly served with the US Army Air Corp in the South Pacific for 3 years. Edmund was a member of St. Peter of the Fields and retired from B & O Railroad, where he worked as the chief office clerk in Akron, OH. He also helped show dogs with his wife Helen for over 35 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James (Rose) and sister Cecelia. Survivors include his beloved wife Helen, of 62 years; his sister, Sister Mary Edmund, CSA; nephews James (Mary Lou) and Michael (Leslie); and many other family members and friends. Calling hours will be TODAY, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. A funeral Mass will be Friday, 11 a.m. at St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church, 3487 Old Forge Rd., Rootstown. Interment at St. Peter of the Fields Cemetery.
