Vera Leona Sweet Lindner, 95, of Hollis, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009 at Harmon Memeorial Hospital in Hollis.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009 at Stewart Funeral Chapel in Hollis with Minister Earl Seigrist officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum.

Vera Sweet was born July 21, 1914 to Lewis and Viola (Gorham) Sweet at Milano, TX.

She graduated from Mangum High School as valedictorian in 1932 and from Southwestern Teachers College at Weatherford as Sum Cum Laude in 1935.

She was united in marriage to Paul Lindner on June 22, 1939 at Mangum.

She first taught in Walters and then she taught English for six years at the Turkish Embassy to people who were coming to the United States. She rewrote the English instruction book for Turkey. Her husband worked for the U.S. Government in the embassy's of many countries, especially Israel, Turkey, and Pakistan. She decided that she would love all people and strived to get along with everyone. She was a world traveler, who climbed a pyramid, rode a camel, and an elephant. She was full of adventure and always had a smile for everyone.

She was a bridge champion in the embassy or on a travel ship. Many times she dined at the Captain's table. She loved spending time with her family, going to family reunions, jigsaw puzzles, work puzzles, and traveling. She said "I always like to go".

Mrs. Lindner is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Chiquita Seigrist and her husband, Earl, whom she lived with for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lindner in 1977; her parents; four brothers; and four sisters.
