A funeral was held at 11 a.m. in Central United Methodist, Hampton, for James Walter Godsey, Jr., 68, of Hampton, who died Friday, September 24, 1982 in Veterans Administration Hospital.

Mr. Godsey, a native of Gwynn's Island, was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and Naval Supply Center in Norfolk.

He was a member of Central Church; St. Tammany Masonic Lodge No. 5, the Uroy Harris Royal Arch Chapter; the Hampton Commandry; Khedive Temple AAONMS; Tidewater Shrine Club; and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla No. 61.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Godsey; a step-daughter, Mrs. Ann Lobervero of Oyster Bay, New York; a stepson, Kenneth Carson of Richmond; five sisters, Mrs. Willard Benston, Mrs. Maxwell W. Hudgins, Sr., Mrs. Rainier and Mrs. Charles E. Edwards, all of Gwynn; and Mrs. William Mason of Bath, North Carolina; and six grandchildren.

The service was conducted by the Rev. Garry Shelton, pastor of Central Church, and the Rev. Fred Powell, pastor of Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church, Hampton. Burial was in the Gwynn's Island Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Clarence W. Collier, Charles R. Ward, Robert G. Hudgins, James Mason, Jimmy Godsey and Wayne Rainier.
