Long-Time Resident Died Sunday Afternoon of Heart Ailment

CAME TO ORLEANS 1903

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon for J. C. Milliken, who died Sunday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock at the home of his son, Lauren Miilliken. Mr. Milliken had suffered from complications of a cold and heart disease for several weeks and has been bedfast at his son's home. He was a carpenter by trade and was engaged in this work until a few years ago.

John Charles Fremont Milliken was born June 17, 1856, at Jefferson, Pa., and died April 23, 1939, at Orleans, Nebr., aged 82 years, 10 months and 6 days. He was one of a family of seven children, four boys and three girls. Six of them preceded him in death, leaving one sister, Mrs. M. L. Houston of Lake Odessa, Mich.

Mr. Milliken was married October 26, 1878, to Belle Rinehart in Greene county, Pennsylvania, where they lived for four years. They moved to Toulon, Ill. where they remained one year and then moved to Adams county, Nebraska, and resided there for twenty years. They moved to Orleans in about 1903, where they made their home until about two years ago, when Mrs. Milliken died. Since then he has spent his time with his children.

He leaves five children, George H. of Pocatello, Ida.; Lauren O. of Orleans; Mrs Ruth Keith of Rio Tinto, Nev.; Mrs. Helen Van Camp of Denver, and Ronald R. of Wells, Nev. Two sons died in infancy. There are 22 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survivng.

Rev. A. W. Ahrendts officiated at the funeral services Tuesday afternoon. A vocal trio, composed of Mrs. Leslie Mullis, Mrs. Maude Wise and John Ralston sang In the Sweet By and By, Sometime We'll Understand and Asleep in Jesus. Mrs. P.F. Krause was the accompanist. Pallbearers were George Austin, Albert Olson, A.H. Lideen, James Dunlay, James McGeachin and Charles Melick. Burial was in the Orleans Cemetery.
