Thomas was an extraordinary man and lived to be approximately 93 years of age. His obit was quite lengthly and there were several newspaper articles on his generosity toward the town of Camp Point and the people there that he loved.
He was the source of the "Bailey's Addition" - land where he built homes and stores, Bailey's Opera House, he helped found the Camp Point Journal according to the obit, he donated his share of land from the fairgrounds and it became Bailey's park.
He married Rebecca Seaton in 1845 - daughter of Richard and Eleanor Seaton. They had a daughter Eleanor who became the first wife of A.B. Kelley.
After the death of Rebecca, Thomas married Permelia Johnson Rhea whose first husband was George Rhea.
