George Yocum died at home. He was born in Pottawatomie County near St Mary's and graduated from St Mary's High School in 1947, where he played football.
He was employed by Neal Construction of Topeka before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 where he served in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
George married Jo Ann Stewart of Wamego on Jun 10, 1951.
After his discharge from the Air Force in 1955, he enrolled at Kansas State University and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1958.
He was employed with Automatic Electric Co in Elmhurst, IL until 1961 when he went to work for Bendix-Allied Signal Aerospace Corp. in Kansas City, MO, retiring in 1987.
He is survived by; wife; son, Ronald R Yocum and wife Susan of Alma; daughter Nancy Huffman and husband John of Kahoka, MO; four grandchildren; a brother, Nick Yocum and wife Emma Lou of St Mary's; and six sisters, Winifred Kerwin and husband Clint of Rossville, Helen Gooden of Topeka, Marguerite Petty of Olathe, Alice Hoffsett and husband Bud of Greenwood, MO, Betty Hatfield of Manassas, VA and Patricia Shove of Silver Lake.
Graveside services were held with full military honors.
