Violet Best Jett, 93, of Reedvile, died October 27, 2001. She was the widow of Joseph Clarence Jett, Jr. and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Reedville. Mrs. Jett was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Clarence Jett, III.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Emily Jett Haynie and Teddy Haynie of Reedville; two brothers, Thomas E. Best and Alfred F. Best both of Nassua, Delaware; six grandchildren, David Haynie of Heathsville, Ricky Haynie and Sutton Haynie both of Reedville, Joseph C. Jett, IV, Kenneth Jett and Diane Jett, all of Tuscon, Arizona; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and numerous niecres and nephews in Delaware.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. October 30 at Bethany United Methodist Church, Reedville, with The Rev. Dr. Donna M. McEwan officiating. Interment was in Roseland Cemetery, Reedville.

Pallbearers were David Haynie, Ricky Haynie, Sutton Haynie, Jason Haynie, Gary Weeter and John H. Harding, Jr.

As per her wedding announcement she was a direct descendent of William Floyd, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, who had the distinction of representing the State of New York at the first assembly.
