CONNELLY, LUMA - of Oak Ridge, passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2009. She was born to Richard and Alva Pounds in Muscadine, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alf Connelly; her parents; her brother, Preston Pounds; and her sister, Norma Allaway. Luma graduated from nursing school at Birmingham Hospital and was working there when she met her husband Alf. They were married in 1945, following Alf's discharge from the Army. They began their married life in Chattanooga where their first son, Donald, was born. They moved to Oak Ridge in 1950 where they had two more children, Dennis and Alva. Alf worked as a sign painter at ORNL for 27 years. Luma worked as an RN on the night shift at MMC for 20+ years. Luma loved the Lord. She loved her family. She loved caring for others. She devotedly cared for Alf prior to his death in 1998. She was an active member of Highland View Church of Christ. During the past 3 years, Luma received loving and compassionate care at home. The family would like to thank Teresa, Jeri, Lisa, Bobbie, and Marie for providing such wonderful care to Luma. Luma is survived by sister, Nelle Tipton; son, Donald Connelly; son, Dennis Connelly; daughter and son-in-law, Alva and Phil McCulley; grandson, Russell Connelly; granddaughter, Robin & Mike Gaus; grandson, Stephen Connelly; and great grandchildren, Jessica and James Gaus. She will be greatly missed by all of us. The funeral service will be held Monday evening, 8 PM at Highland View Church of Christ, 138 Providence Rd, Oak Ridge, with Minister Curtis McClane officiating. A graveside service will be held at Anderson Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, 11 A.M. The family will receive friends Monday at the church from 6 - 8 PM. Weatherford Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
