NEWINGTON, CONN. Virginia R. Carter, 72, of Indian Hill Road, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in the New Britain General Hospital. She was a former Williamstown and Randolph, Vt., resident.
Born October 27, 1931, in Websterville, Vt., she was the daughter of Leon and Edith Maude (Peabody) Carpenter. She attended Barre, Vt., schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1951. From September 25, 1951, to July 23, 1953, she served in the United States Navy at the US Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Ill.
In earlier years, she lived in Williamstown and Randolph and for the past twenty years resided in Newington. She worked for the Sprague Electric Company in Barre and for the Waterbury Plastic Company in Randolph. While living in Newington, she worked for Electro Tech, Inc. in Cheshire, Conn.
Survivors include her son, Arland Carter of South Barre; five sisters, Katie Goulet of Newington, Conn., Annie Murphy of Wells River, Vt., Edith Tousignant of Barre Town, Flora Carpenter of Barre, and Yvonne Fortune of Dorchester, Mass.; five brothers, Carlos Carpenter and his wife, Angie of Barre, John Carpenter and his wife, Idalyse, Kenneth Carpenter and his wife, Thelma, and Peter Carpenter and his wife, Mary, all of Barre Town, and Bernard Carpenter and his wife, Judy of Marshfield, Vt.; several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, Leon Carpenter, Herbert Carpenter, Arthur Carpenter, and Richard Carpenter predeceased her. Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 12 noon in the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel in Randolph, Vt., with the Rev. Ronald Rilling, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph. Friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
