In 1860 Albert, at age 16, was sent to the State Reform School at Cape Elizabeth, Maine for larceny.
On October 11, 1861, at age 17, Albert enlisted as a 'Private' in Company K of the 12th Maine Volunteer Regiment.
He served at Camp Parapet in Louisiana where he suffered from malaria fever, and rheumatism.
He served at Winchester in Virgina where he was wounded in his left shoulder by a shell.
On 27 April 1866 was was Honorably discharged at Eart's Island.
On 11 October 1915 Albert was admitted in the National Home for Disabled Soldiers at Togus where he remained until his death.
