∼OBITUARY OF MRS. S. J. ALLEN
Mrs. S. J. ALLEN, 86, long resident of the Panhandle died Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Perryton. Mrs. ALLEN's death followed a lingering illness of two weeks.
Mrs. ALLEN was born in Hamilton, Texas in 1864 and came to Canadian in the late 1890's. She moved from Canadian to Ochiltree County in 1906. She was the widow of Judge S. ALLEN who was an attorney in Canadian and Perryton. The long time Ochiltree resident was an active member in the Baptist Church. She was one of the original 13 members that founded the First Baptist Church in Ochiltree County.
Mrs. ALLEN's parents were from Hamilton, Texas. Her father was the former Judge James M. RICE who was the first county judge at Hamilton. At that time, judges were called Chief Justices.
The deceased is survived by eight children, four daughters and four sons. They are Walter, Jack, Rupert, and Dewey ALLEN. The daughters are Mrs. S. P. TEVIS and Mrs. Mammie POWERS of Perryton, Mrs. Bruce BRAY of Fresno, California, and Mrs. L. W. ROGERS of Mayfield, Kentucky. All of the children will attend the funeral.
The Funeral Service will be this afternoon at three o'clock at the First Baptist Church in Perryton with Rev. O. C. Curtis officiating. Boxwell Brothers will direct the Services.
Pallbearers will be James, Jack M., Nelson, Jack H., Norman and Bill ALLEN, Cecil TEVIS, Robert POWERS, Bryon TEVIS and Irwin MOLESWORTH.

Funeral Services were held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist church for Mrs. Charlotte Nancy ALLEN, Ochiltree county pioneer and member of a prominent county family. Mrs. ALLEN, who was 86 years old, had been bedfast for the past 13 years.
She was the widow of S. J. ALLEN, the first official county surveyor and later county attorney.
A native of Hamlin County, she moved with family to Canadian in 1905 and a year later traveling by covered wagon, the family moved to Ochiltree.
When Ochiltree was moved to the Perryton town site in 1919, the ALLEN home at 422 South Colgate was the fifth house to be moved to the new city.
She was the mother of district judge Jack ALLEN, county surveyor Rupert C. ALLEN, justice of the peace Dewey R. ALLEN; Walter R. ALLEN of Borger; Mrs. S. P. TEVIS, Mrs. Mamie POWERS, Mrs. Bruce BRAY of Fresno, California, and Mrs. J. W. ROGERS of Mayfield, Kentucky.
She is survived by a brother, Jim RICE of Douglas, Arizona, twenty grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Mrs. ALLEN joined the Baptist Church at Hamlin, Texas in 1886 and was a charter member of Perryton's First Baptist Church, which she helped to organize.
All eight of her children were at her bedside as she died.
Rev. O. C. Curtis, pastor of the First Baptist church, conducted the final rites, assisted by Rev. Lloyd H. Jones, pastor of the First Methodist Church.
Pallbearers, all grandsons of Mrs. ALLEN, were Jack M. ALLEN, Jack H. ALLEN, Bill H. ALLEN, Nelson ALLEN, James ALLEN, Norman C. ALLEN, Cecil TEVIS, Robert POWERS, Byron TEVIS and Irvin MOLESWORTH.
Interment was in the Ochiltree Cemetery.
