Hoyet Harold Holloway, 88, of Rockwood, died Monday, June 29, 2009, in The Bridge of Rockwood.

Born Oct. 7, 1920, in the Eagle Furnace community of Roane County, he was the son of Elisha B. and Bessie Treadway Holloway, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was retired from Tennessee Valley Authority with 25 years of service. A member of Whites Creek Baptist Church, Rockwood, he served as church trustee for more than 40 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who was combat wounded while serving as a private first class in the Pacific Theater. A Mason, he was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, Rockwood Lodge 403 F&AM and Rockwood Order of Eastern Star Chapter 382. He was also a member of American Legion Post 50, Rockwood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Pearl Edwards, Goldie Benson, Beulah Hinds and Ola Mae Holloway; and brothers, Jonas Holloway, Clarence Holloway and William Earl Holloway.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Jewell N. Holloway of Rockwood; son and daughter-in-law, Harold D. and Nancy Holloway of Rockwood; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Tim and Jamie Holloway of Midway; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kim Holloway and Louis Harkness of Mount Juliet; great-grandchildren, Hunter Holloway and Savannah Holloway, both of Midway; stepgreat-grandchildren, Jasmine Harkness and Jade Harkness, both of Mount Juliet; sisters, Juanita Burns, Wilma Taylor and Ruth Bonetsky, all of Rockwood; brother, Joe Holloway of Rockwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, in Evans Mortuary chapel, Rockwood, with the Rev. Hascue Carter officiating.

Graveside service, with full military honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard, and burial were at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Rockwood.
