Sardis - JEAN FERRELL MOORE NIX, 87, died March 23, 2009 at her home in Sardis, MS. Born January 19, 1922 in New Albany, MS to Allyne and Albert Moore, she attended school in Marks, MS and was valedictoriam of her graduating class. She studied at Delta State University and received an Associate of Arts Degree from Northwest Mississippi Community College in 1985.

She married John Wesley Nix on November 27, 1941 and lived in Cleveland, OH; Wichita, KS and Memphis before moving to Sardis in 1954. She was an active member of the Sardis Presbyterian Church, Friends of the Library, The Sardis Women's Club and the Heflin House. She was employed at the Sardis Luggage Company and the MS Department of Human Services where she was an Eligibility Worker until her retirement in 1987.

She was an avid traveler, baseball fan, bridge player, gardener and reader. However, one of her greatest pleasures was simply walking on the beach in Florida.

Preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Albert Moore, Jr., and her husband; she is survived by five children; Kay Ayers (Curt) of Oxford, (Marjorie) Cooper (Tom) of Clarksdale, Diane Urwin (Chuck) of Litchfield, NH, Kris Golden (Wilson) of Falls Church, VA and Jay Nix(Jennifer Harmon) of Bellingham, WA. She also leaves thirteen grandchldren; Curt Ayers IV, Ferrel Ayers, Tom Cooper III, Jean Cooper, John Cooper, Laurie Urwin Blanchette (Steve), Jay Urwin (Keri Klontz), Granger Harriss, Kasey Harriss Pinegar (Jeff), Wesley Harriss Alter (Mike), Will Golden (Vanessa Mamikuniam), Lewis Golden, Camille Golden and seven great-grandchildren; Hope Blanchette, Megan Blanchette, Brian Blanchette, Ayden Pinegar, Kaitlyn Pinegar, Mackenzie Pinegar and Ever Golden as well as several cousins, in-laws and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Sardis Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, followed by a family graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
