Robert A. Mallam, 87, died Saturday in the Compassionate Care Hospice Unit at St. Francis Hospital, Trenton, NJ. He was born in Trenton, NJ. Mr. Mallam lived in Altoona for 13 years before moving back to Trenton. Surviving are his two sons and their wives: Clifford and Dolores Mallam of Hamilton Square and Richard and Maureen Mallam of Chelmsford, MA; his son-in-law, William and his wife, Amy Hoppock, of Hamilton Square; 7 grandchildren: Craig and Christopher Mallam of Hamilton Square, Victoria and John Smart and Eric Mallam of Charleston, SC, Lisa and Tyronne Banks of Willow Grove, William and Tracy Hoppock of Milford, CT and James and Ruth Hoppock of Bordentown; 2 great grandchildren: Lucas Banks and Tyler Hoppock; former daughter-in-law, Faith Mallam of Charleston, SC; sister-in-law, Martha; and two nieces: Jane and Barbara of Altoona. The family also would like to recognize Ms. June (McPherson) Wilson, who provided constant and loving in-home care the last four years of his life. Mr. Mallam was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor M. Mallam, in 2003; and prior to that, Marjorie Coryell Mallam, in 1965; his brother, John of Altoona; and his stepdaughter, Sandra L. Hoppock of Hamilton Square. During their long illnesses, Mr. Mallam was a loving and devoted caregiver to both Marjorie and Eleanor. He had an inner strength and an innate ability to face adversity without complaint, which was an inspiration to the many who cared for him during his lengthy illness. He was a machinist at the Crescent Insulated Wire & Cable Co. from 1940-60. He then worked as a model maker at the AT&T Engineering Research Center in Hopewell, NJ, before retiring in 1984. Mr. Mallam served with the 100th Combat Infantry Division in France and Germany during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of Post 3525 Vets of Foreign Wars and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hamilton Square. Friends will be received from 9:30 to the 11:30 a.m. funeral service Thursday at Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. Interment, Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.
