Leon Ray Martin, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, September 04, 2009, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born June 14, 1927 in Oklahoma City to Charles and Hattie Martin. He was united in marriage to Nona Childers on July 24, 1952. Leon was a painting contractor for over 40 years. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1945 and served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a Deacon at Shields Boulevard Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School director for many years. He loved fishing and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be missed by all of them. Leon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nona of the home; two sons: Charlie Martin and wife Donette of OKC; Robert Martin and wife Mechelle of OKC; three daughters: Leona Slemp and husband Mitchell of OKC; Debbie Kitchens and husband Richard of Tuttle; Charlett Overturf and husband Scott of OKC; one sister, Juanita Murphy and husband Joe of OKC; eleven grandchildren: Doug Kitchens, Lori Blair, Kevin Slemp, Julie Barnett, Brittany Martin, Heather Overturf, Tavia Redburn, Melissa Martin, Bobby Overturf, Addison Martin and Chelsea Martin; and six great-grandchildren: Hannah Blair, Abby Blair, Brecken Slemp, Elizabeth Blair, Cooper Redburn and Marley Barnett. He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister, Leona. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 9, 2009, in the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
