He graduated from the University of Nashville (Tennessee) Medical School in 1859, and practiced medicine thereafter. Enlisted as Pvt., Co. H, Elmore's Regt., Texas Infantry on June 9, 1862, and was discharged by reason of furnishing a substitute.
