He has been referred to as Rev. J. G. SLOVER in cemetery transcriptions.

In 10m 2014 contributor Chris Hammond (#47832597) added that John Calvin SLOVER was a Captain in Company E of the (Union) Tennessee 3rd Infantry.

The monument is a joint marker with Rev. John C. Slover and wife Louisa Jane Hicks Slover. It has fallen over with John's side face down on the ground. There is a Free Mason logo above his name indicating that he was one.

Captain John Calvin Slover led Company "E" of the 3rd Tennessee Volunteer Infantry, USA, during the Civil War. He was captured near Love's Hill around Knoxville. Most of the men from his company were from the Anderson County area.
