Abbott, John R. was born in Brown County, N.Y. June 11, 1830 and died at his home in Rome City, July 3, aged 63 years. He died of heart failure. He was an extensive traveler, having spent the early part of his life in foreign countries. He served his country during the entire Civil War in the Navy and afterwards as an officer on board of a cadet school ship. He leaves one daughter by a first marriage and his present wife, Susannah D. Abbott, to whom he was married April 12, 1890, also a mother 87 years old, 3 brothers and 6 sisters. Funeral at the Rome City M. E. Church July 5. Burial, Orange Cemetery. ^ 7-10-1896
