He married Mary Smith, daughter of Charles and Alice Keating Smith of Albany on Sept. 23, 1877 in Albany. In his early years he worked as a dry goods merchant in the Chenango Forks and Smithville areas. At some point in the late 1880's he moved to Vestal where he engaged in farming. He later worked in real estate in the towns of Union and Vestal, turning farms into building lots.
He was survived by his sister Jennie Wiles of Willet, and many nieces and nephews.
