Clinton MO - J. A. Trent died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. O. Tally, at 9:10 p.m. December 25, 1939. He had been bedfast the past three weeks, general weakness, induced by his almost 95 years of living, gradually taking its toll. Had he lived until January 4, he would have attained his 95th brithday.

James Alexander Trent was born in Indiana, and early in life moved with his parents to near Des Moines, Iowa, and as a young man he fought in the Union Army in the War Between the States.

Miss Elizabeth Ball was his first wife and was the mother of his oldest son, Frank Trent, now of Clinton. After her death Mr. Trent married Miss Mary Collazier of Des Moines, Iowa, mother of his other children of whom the following survive: Mrs. Charity E. Shaffer of Blairsburg, Iowa; Mrs. Edith Fuestion, of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Daisy Day of Clairfield, Ia., Alfred Trent of Gering, Nebr., and Mrs. J. O. Tally of Clinton.

Forty-two years ago Mr. Trent moved with his family to Missouri where he farmed. As the years lengthened he and his wife made their home in the winter with their daughter, Mrs. Tally, going to their own home in the summer.

After the death of his second wife, he married Mrs. Lina Poague, who died on Christmas day three years ago. Since then Mr. Trent had made his home with his daughter, who gave him every care and attention she was able, never failing in her duty.

Mr. Trent was a member of the Methodist church, a hard working, kind, quiet man, who had many good qualities. Rev. Eaker will conduct the funeral services Thursday (this) afternoon at the Tally home on Allen Street. Consalus & Peck in charge. Burial in Englewood. Source: Johanna and Harry Jun. 27, 2011
