-------------------------------------------------------

I am Bertha's Great-Granddaughter. She died when I was 5 years old. I remember attending her graveside funeral.

I called her "Gramma Goddard". She was so loving and always eager to help with whatever needed to be done. My family would visit her often in her little cottage studio located at 4369 Arizona Street San Diego, CA., not to far behind the Church of Christ at 2528 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, Ca. (our entire family in San Diego attended this church throughout the years). Today, the little cottages are gone, and condos stand where I once visited her. This is a neighborhood that is called "North Park". Church was a big part of her life. She was quite the Gospel spreader, and I believe she was an important part in founding the Church of Christ on the big island of Hawaii and also one in San Diego. Besides her Faith, she had a powerful work ethic. Idle time was not something she was fond of.

When I would come to visit her, she would always give me a little baby food jar full of coins...mostly pennies. I thought it was a fortune and was so excited to get it! She had some little birds, maybe parakeets? Grandma Goddard was the short order cook at Granger's in her 80's just before her death. Granger's is just a few doors west from church, on the next block. It is a very small diner. A tiny, open kitchen opposite a little counter and maybe a couple of tables was all it was. Today, it is an Ethopian cafe.

In most photos of gramma, she is at church or a church function, carrying a Bible, or reading the Bible to others. A true woman of God!
