WEST GARDINER - Joan W. Adams, 75, of High Street passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch in Augusta. She was born in Presque Isle on May 10, 1933, a daughter of Elbert Ireland and Effie Roberts Ireland.
Joan attended schools in Mapleton. She had been employed for 39 years at New England Tel & Tel in Presque Isle, Augusta and Lewiston. She was a communicant of St. Michael Parish at St. Joseph Church in Gardiner.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Genevieve Ferran, Rita Richardson and Lorraine Reynolds; and four brothers, Elbert Ireland Jr., Holman Ireland, Richard Ireland and Roger Ireland.
She is survived by her husband, John Q. Adams, of West Gardiner; a stepdaughter, Dianne Sargent, of Freeport; four grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah DeLong, of Bangor, and Dorothy Rosa, of Concord, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at St. Joseph Church in Gardiner. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardiner. (Kennebec Journal 9/19/2008)
