Mr. Washburn, who lives on J.M. Perry's farm, across the road from the James Nichols farm, lost a girl about four years old, last Wednesday, of diphtheria. Two of his other children, one a girl aged about thirteen, and the other a girl about seven years old, have the same disease, and at this writing, (Monday) have been given up by their physicians.
Later - The oldest girl is dead, and the Doctor says the other girl cannot live. The remaining child, a boy, has had an attack of the same disease, and with him the attack seems to be more malignant, if possible, than with the other children.
Mrs. Washburn is reported nearly distracted with her affliction. The boy is eleven years old.
Dec. 5, 1878, the Washburn's boy died after being sick 48 hours. They have only one child left, a girl about seven years old. She has had the diphtheria very bad but it is thought she will recover.
