John William Lioy, 66, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has died. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Anthony and Naomi Dorman Lioy. Surviving are his sister, Patricia Seaberg of Dover, Del.; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Barbara Lioy of Tucson, Ariz.; and his nieces and nephews: Dana Edwards, David Seaberg, Michael and Patrick Lioy, Shelly Wilson, Monica Oldham, Becky Stoppa and Steve Seplocha. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Lioy. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy upon his high school graduation and served more than five years, including a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He was awarded an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his wartime service. After his discharge in 1967, John moved to Fort Lauderdale, where he met and married Kay Seplocha. John and Kay enjoyed 27 years together until Kay's death in 1994. He was a retired Bell South electronics technician. John enjoyed working out, riding his bike to the beach and reading in his backyard tiki hut. He was known for his sense of humor, his positive outlook on life and his compassion, according to his family and friends. A private burial was held Aug. 26, 2009, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, North Lauderdale, Fla.
