Mr. Harold F. Chapman, age 83, Vidalia, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.

The Memphis, Tennessee, native had resided most of his life in Vidalia. He was a retired clerk with the United States Postal Service with 30 years of service, and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and Korea, was a member of the V.F.W., and a former member of the American Legion. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Vidalia, and was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Rockett Chapman, in 2000.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna C. and Jake Strickland, Vidalia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn H. and Tammy Chapman, Oak Park, and Charles N. and Debbie Chapman, Vidalia; four grandchildren, Dena Roberts, Valdosta, Kayla Chapman, Oak Park, and Christa Chapman and Scott Strickland, both of Vidalia; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 1, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with the Reverend Efton Green and the Reverend Murray Ward officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were James Brantley, Ed Sharpe, Chuck Rockett, Jimmy Dixon, Bob Dixon and Bonny Dixon. Honorary pallbearers were James Thompson, Johnny Barfield, Aaron McGowan, Billy Colvin, Hubert Oglesby and Paul Jones.
