On Sunday, August 2, our wonderful husband, father, papa, uncle and brother, was unexpectedly called to his eternal home. Jack V. Barner was a special man whose true passion was dedicating himself and his life to his family.
He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 43 years, Judith Sleeman Barner. His children, Jodell Barner and Jason Barner, were the pride and joy of his life. Also surviving are his favorite daughterinlaw Michele Nuhfer Barner and his two grandchildren that he adored, Alaina and Curtis Barner.
Jack was an avid and respected outdoorsman and sportsman. He loved all sports, but his true favorite was football. Jack was an allstar football player in his day and he especially loved watching the Kane Wolves play under the leadership of his son, Jason.
Mr. Barner served in the Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was an engineer in the boiler plant at Warren State Hospital. He belonged to the Sheffield VFW Color Honor Guard and was a lifelong member of the Sheffield Sports Boosters. He also belonged to the Kane Fish and Game Club, the Kalbfus Rod and Gun Club, the Sheffield Rod and Gun Club and was a member of the American Legion in Sheffield.
Born August 20, 1941, in Kane, he was a son of Cecil and Harriet Porter Barner. On October 9, 1965, in Clarendon, he married Judith Sleeman, who survives.
He is also survived by two sisters, Inez (Kirby) Lindsey of Sheffield and Ardith Knopf of Warren; two brothers, Donald (Becky) Hilyer of Warren and Herman (Josephine) Hilyer of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Almeda HilyerBarner; five brothers, Raymond Barner, Arthur Barner, Richard Barner, Gene Barner and Harry Hilyer; and three sisters, Beatrice Nuhfer, Irma Spicer and Ann Asel.
