Annie J. Burke was born in England in March of 1863. Her parents were Patrick and Bridget Conroy Burke. Annie came to the United States in 1884. On February 4, 1891, she married James Flood in Minneapolis, Minnesota. James was a machinist for the street railway company and they were living in near northeast Minneapolis. From 1894 to 1898,they lived on South 9th Street.
James was hired by the Minneapolis Police Department in 1899. Annie and James continued to live on 9th Street until 1914. Around that time, they moved to 15th and Nicollet, where they lived until 1927.
James was a police officer all that time, and Annie had five sons, James in 1892, John in 1893, Peter in 1894. Edmond in 1899 and Thomas
in 1909.
In 1927, Annie and James were separated, Annie was living in near south Minneapolis, working as a domestic, and James on Nicollet, still with the department. Annie died in Minneapolis on February 27, 1940, at 75. She was living with their youngest son, Thomas. James lived until July 12, 1943. Their oldest son was living with him. Both James and Annie were buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in south Minneapolis.
