Nevada M. Peterman was born near Crawfordsville, Indiana, June 22nd, 1854, and departed this life May 26th, 1913. If she had lived until June 22nd, she would have been 59 years old. She was united in marriage to Brily Douglas Sept. 5th, 1880, to this union were born eight children as follows: Howard, Weaver, Ottie, Omer, Grace the wife of B. C. Baldwin, Fred, Bernice and Ruby. Weaver, Omer and Bernice having preceded her to the life beyond. Besides her family she leaves to mourn two brothers Wally and Frank Peterman, residing at Los Angeles, California. She was converted, and with her husband joined the United Brethren Church in November, 1880. From the day of her conversion to the close of her life she believed in and practiced experimental religion. She had always been a teacher of the Junior class in Sunday school and was never happier than when telling those Bible stories and of the love of Jesus. The Sunday school of this place was organized through her influence. She was a kind and loving mother and companion always seeking to lead her family in the christian's path of duty. Her life has been a benediction and inspiration to all those who knew her. We all will miss Sister Douglas but our loss is her gain; she has now joined those of her family whom she has been separated from for so many years; truly we can say she has gone home.
The funeral was conducted in the beautiful church at Carlyle by her pastor Rev. C. E. Hogue, assisted by Rev. Ira Howly a former pastor, and Rev. R. Whitaker, pastor of United Brethren Church in Beach, N. Dak., after which her body was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at Carlyle. The church was filled to its capacity with sympathizing friends and neighbors. Rev. Hogue preached a solemn and impressive sermon from Rev. 14:13 after which Revs. Howly and Whitaker gave short addresses. The family has the sympathy of the entire community.
