MRS. N. C. CROOKS
Dorcas, daughter of James and Eliza Nyswonger, was born near the Graceland church in Ottercreek township, Lucas county, Iowa, on September 12, 1856, and departed this life February 11, 1934, at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 1 day. She was the last surviving member in a family of six children.
She was stricken with heart trouble about six weeks ago, and for the last ten days had grown steadily weaker until her Maker called her from earthly cares.
She was united in marriage to Criswell Crooks on December 29, 1881, and they had lived to celebrate their golden wedding two years ago, when their relatives and friends came to the Graceland church to help them celebrate the occasion.
Mrs. Crooks was a mother of four children, Rease, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Tom Cackler, of near Liberty Center; Ullie and Charles, and one adopted son, Raymond, all of near Norwood. All were with her during her last illness excepting Rease, who was unable to be present.
Besides the faithful companion and children, she leaves to mourn their loss twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild, other relatives and a host of friends who will sadly miss her.
On July 4, 1896, she was baptized in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She has always taken an active part in church work whenever the opportunity was given and health permitted.
Her entire life was spent in Lucas county and her many acts of goodness and kindness won for her a place in the hearts of all those who came her way. To know her was to love her.
Funeral services, conducted by Elder James Robinson, of Lacona, assisted by Earl Lewis, of Lamoni, Iowa, were held at the Graceland church on February 13, 1934, with interment at Graceland cemetery.
Six of her grandchildren, three granddaughters and three grandsons, acted as pall bearers. The floral tributes were very beautiful. Music was furnished by the Lacona mixed quartet.
